Competition Time!

After we mentioned Gary's visit a while back, the nice people at Klunkerz, namely Billy Savage the writer/producer/director, have given us some copies of the movie to give away in a competition. Just to make it interesting and to give Klunkerz another little boost, the competition requires an answer that can be easily found on the Klunkerz website.

"When was Billy Savage born and in what city in California?" See, I've given you a clue there already. Just go to the Klunkerz website and get the answer from there. Pas de problem as they may say in France. Send us your answer by the 11th of April to this address- griff@trekbikes.com. The first 5 correct entries will get a copy of the Klunkerz DVD.

Fishman flies

Further to the Klunkerz visit, Gary flew in to help us out with the video we're putting together for G2. Even though he's a Super Vet in race terms, he wasn't the slowest guy on the bike. The film group was made up of a number of keen riders from Trek UK and a couple of the lads that will make up the new xcracer/29er team, so for Gary to be in the mix was pretty impressive. The day turned out to be sunny and crisp but the highlight was undoubtedly the bacon sarnies at the end.

Gary will be popping back from time to time and hopefully adding a little mountain bike insight to these pages once he gets back from travelling around Europe.

Klunkerz Premiere in Fort William

So the reason Gary is in the UK this weekend, apart from helping us out with some video for the Revolver site, is to attend the UK premiere of Klunkerz, a film about the origins of the mountain bike. William Savage, the director, will also be in attendance so scoot up there with some questions for the man who brought all the disparate elements together and told the whole story. From what I hear, Charlie Kelly, another of the original MTB pioneers, will be in Fort William as well. The Premiere airs on Wednesday night, 7pm, tickets Pound6 or Pound2 concessions. Check out the festival itinery for more information.

Retro 29er

It’s a well known fact that Gary is keen on bikes. Mountain bikes, road bikes, hybrids, bikes for shopping, (Gary does his grocery shopping by bike), your bike, my bike; it doesn’t matter, he just likes bikes. On a recent trip to see dealers in sunnier climes, Gary came across this old bike that had a foot in the past and the future. Someone had built an old frame into the latest growing trend of the 29er. Mud clearance looks a little tight for the UK but there’s bags of retro style to it that transcends borders and indeed, time. Hopefully, we’ll see more of Gary’s travels soon.
